The Japan Productivity Center (JPC) celebrated its 60th anniversary on March 1st and held the commemorative symposium entitled "The Future Direction of the Productivity Movement: a Decade from Now" and reception on the following March 2nd in Tokyo.
At his opening speech at JPC' s 60th anniversary reception, Japan' s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the launch of "Nihon (=Japan) Service Award" and stressed that it is high time to proceed "Service Productivity Revolution" with three dimensions; 1) Innovative, 2) Respected and 3) Global.
Service sector in Japan now accounts more than 70% both in GDP and in labor force, however, it productivity level still lags behind those of other advanced countries like US and Europe. To promote service sector productivity growth is, therefore, significant in upgrading Japan' s economy as a whole.
JPC' s SPRING (Service Productivity and Innovation for Growth) will serve as its secretariat. Application starts from July 2015, and after multiple selections, total around 30 services will be awarded around April 2016 as Prime Minister' s Prize, Regional Revitalization Minister' s Prize, Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry Minister' s Prize, Economy, Trade and Industry Minister' s Prize, etc.
